Tim Johnson, a former organic food executive new to Vashon, was elected the president of the Vashon-Maury Island Community Council’s board Monday night.

In a 5-3 vote, with one abstention, he was chosen over Carl Sells, who stepped in as acting board president after Jake Jacobovitch, who was chosen to helm the board in December, resigned last month.

The election took place at the beginning of Monday’s meeting. With Johnson at the helm, the board then moved quickly through several issues as it teed up the agenda for the council’s Feb. 21 general meeting.

Among the decisions it made was one to devote 30 minutes at the next board meeting to discuss “the Public Records Act and current events related to it,” a motion Johnson put forward.

Meanwhile, at the end of the meeting, two non-board members encouraged the council’s board to work together more effectively.

“This community-at-large wants this board and our council to succeed, but it won’t wait too long,” said Joe Ulatoski, a former board member.

lander, asked the board to consider a motion seeking Tom Bangasser’s removal from the board if he continues to “pursue his investigation” of past VMICC board members, an effort on his part that she called a conflict of interest.
