Zoning laws may provide affordable housing answers

I am not optimistic that the state of Washington will fund its Housing Trust Fund in order to address the issue of a lack of affordable housing, any more than I expect it will begin to adequately fund college education or institute a progressive tax structure.

Perhaps another solution can be found in the example of Vancouver, B.C., which liberalized its zoning law to allow small rental units to be added to residential properties, thereby increasing housing density without altering the character or quality of neighborhoods, and reducing rental costs as a result of increased housing stock.
