It was interesting reading some early history of Lisabeula (“Site of popular park and beach has served many purposes,” Aug. 10).
An event later in its history is pretty much unknown: The great Quincy Jones played a gig there. OK — Quincy was only a junior at Garfield High School, but those of us who were his classmates considered him a musical genius.
The graduating class of 1949 had parents with summer cabins on Vashon, so some of us put together an all-nighter after the formal graduation. Quincy and his band played at Lisabeula for 100 or so who came over for the party.
It was a blast.
