The triangle route may to go two-boat schedule this weekend, beginning on Saturday afternoon.
According to Broch Bender, a spokesman for Washington State Ferries, the state recently learned that the Sealth, a ferry that currently serves another route, may require repairs to its propulsion system. Should the Sealth need go out of service for those repairs this weekend, it would be unable to fill in for the Wenatchee when it goes out of service for a mandatory safety inspection, and the system would be down four ferries.
In that case, the Issaquah, which currently serves Vashon, would be sent to fill in on the Edmonds-Kingston route.
Broch said that WSF normally does not downsize the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth route, but it will need to should four vessels go out of service at once, a rare occurrence for the ferry system.
The two-boat schedule would be in effect from Saturday afternoon though Tuesday and the 24-car Hiyu would make unscheduled trips to help fill in.
