t VAA’s summer classes for kids still have some room.
Stage-savvy kids can kick up their heels and hone their performance skills this summer at Vashon Allied Arts’ drama and dance camps.
Dance camps for younger dancers include beginning ballet and modern dance and introduction to hip-hop. Teenagers can take advantage of more advanced camps, including one focusing on intermediate ballet and pointe and another concentrating on hip-hop dance.
Intermediate ballet and pointe camp, led by instructors Jill Adomaitis and Christine Juarez, will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 8 to Aug. 21.
Hip-hop camp, taught by Amelia Bolyard, will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, July 14 to July 30, with 9- to 12-year-olds dancing from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., and older dancers scheduled from 7:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Spots are also still available for beginning ballet and modern dance classes for 6- to 10-year-olds. These classes will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Aug. 19 to 28.
Two theater camps — both taught by well-known Island thespian Lisa Breen — are also still accepting registrations.
Center Stage Play camp, for ages 7 to 9, will take place 10 a.m. to noon, Monday to Thursday, July 14 to 17. Campers will brainstorm story lines, create characters and write their own scripts to perform onstage in front of an invited audience.
VAA describes the camp as an opportunity for young actors to “collaborate and learn the importance of ensemble teamwork” and promises that campers will “create a cohesive play involving all the elements of stage, from movement and voice projection to costume and set design.”
Vashon’s tiniest actors, ages 4 to 6, will have a chance to strut their stuff and turn a familiar fairy tale upside down during Topsy Turvy Tales camp, scheduled 10 to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, July 28 to July 31.
Stop by Blue Heron Art Center to register for any of the camps, or call 463-5131 for more information.
Registration forms may be found in the current issue of “Island View” or online at www.vashonalliedarts.org.
