Letter to the Editor: State ferry service should find other ways to save

Here we go again. Shades of the 1950s. Cut the ferry service, rile up the people and generate “cross-Sound hysteria” for a bridge. If our ferry officials want to really cut costs, all they have to do is take a tour of the Coleman Dock facility or any other place ferry offices are located and look for any kind of savings.

Now as far as cutting service, baloney, you might save a few bucks on oil. If you tie up the boat, the crew will still get paid. Now if you plan to cut Vashon’s runs and not Bainbridge or Edmonds-Kingston, that, my friends, is plain discrimination. If you must cut service, then be sure to make it system wide, including all the executives and workers alike. The state bought the ferry system, and it’s their job to provide service, good service. If they don’t, the people will demand a cross-Sound tunnel. Stay tuned.
