Audition for a New Works show

Auditions for two short plays in Vashon Allied Arts’ New Works Series, “The Cure” and “Uncommon Clay,” will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 22, and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Blue Heron Arts Center. There are parts for adult men and women of all ages. Actors and actresses should prepare one short monologue. Selections from the script will also be read. Try out for a Shakespeare play

To act or not to act — get an answer to that question at auditions for this summer’s Shakespeare in the Park performance sponsored by Vashon Park District. Director Phil Dunn invites anyone who’s interested to audition from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 1 and 4, at Ober Park’s performance room. No experience is required. This summer’s play will be “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The play is scheduled to run July 28, 29 and 30 in Ober Park.

RISK needs young string players

The Rock Island String Collective (RISK), a new group for violinists, guitarists, cellists, bassists and ukulele players ages 10 through 18, is forming. The group will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 25, in the Minglemint conference room. RISK will focus on folk and popular music and is open to all levels of ability. he cost for the eight-week session is $50 per student, with discounts for families with more than one child participating.
