The Vashon High School Lacrosse Club enters this season as the youngest and most inexperienced team in recent memory, according to coach Charley Rosenberry.
“We’ve graduated quite a few players the past two years,” he said. “This year’s varsity squad has only four returners. The junior varsity is almost entirely comprised of freshmen.”
Nonetheless, the team has energy and is demonstrating a desire to remain one of the stronger programs in the Washington Boys High School Lacrosse Association, Division I, Rosenberry added.
Senior co-captain Derek Kimbrough will lead the offense. Senior co-captain Ian Blixt and sophomore co-captain Austin Franks will anchor the defense.
The Vashon Club remains the smallest school in Division I high school lacrosse. The consistent success of the program, with five consecutive years in the playoffs for the state championship, is a testament, Rosenberry indicated, to the solid preparation the players get in the 5/6 and 7/8 Vashon Lacrosse Club programs.
“We again look forward to making Vashon proud of its lacrosse teams in the 2008 season,” Rosenberry concluded.
