Vashon lacrosse takes down Highline team

The Vashon Lacrosse Club boys high school team had its first home game postponed due to wet fields. However the boys went on to notch their first victory at Highline on Friday.

The Vashon Lacrosse Club boys high school team had its first home game postponed due to wet fields. However the boys went on to notch their first victory at Highline on Friday.

Vashon scored first on a goal by Luke Hembree, but Highline came right back to tie it early in the first quarter.

Vashon answered with Hembree scoring one more and assisting on goals to sophomores Nathan Jones and Griff Jennings. By the end of the first quarter, Vashon established a 6-2 lead.

Vashon maintained a four-goal lead for the remainder of the game to finish with an 11-7 victory.

The win was sealed with a highlight goal by senior co-captain John Smith assisted by Jennings.

Hembree was Vashon’s top scorer again with four goals and three assists. Senior Konnar Fall found teammates in position to score to dish out three assists.

Overall, Vashon showed a remarkably balanced offense with seven different players contributing goals and assists. Senior Dan Lofland devoured nine ground balls.

Though Vashon’s young defense lost its focus at times, senior Will West continues to lead this unit to improvement overall and limited Highline’s top scorer to one goal.

Vashon finally comes home to play on Friday at 5 p.m. against Shoreline and a Saturday noon game against a powerful Richland squad.
