Buy tickets to Garden Tour
Vashon Allied Arts encourages people to buy tickets to the 18th annual Garden Tour and reminds people that they make good Father’s Day gifts.
An event designed for gardeners and non-gardeners alike, the Garden Tour provides opportunities to stop and smell the roses, enjoy live music, attend free seminars, check out a private plant sale, see art in the gardens, bid on artist-embellished birdhouses and shop at the Garden Market.
This year’s tour, slated for June 20 to 22, is sponsored by John L. Scott and Puget Sound Energy with additional funding by Thriftway, JR Crawford, Dig Floral & Garden and The Little House.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Blue Heron Arts Center, Heron’s Nest and Dig Floral & Garden.

Market hosts soul musician
Vashon Farmers Market will welcome Island acoustic and soul musician Sarah Christine at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, in the Village Green.
Christine says her songwriting is fired by her belief in music’s ability to strengthen and unify people. For more information, contact Joanne Jewell, the market’s manager, at 267-8146.
Poetry at Luna
A poetry slam produced by the Vashon Youth Council with sponsorship by Vashon Park District, Development of Island Teens and Cafe Luna, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday June 6.
This performance poetry event will be intergenerational, competitive and fun, according to organizers. Poets should arrive a little early to the slam to sign up to perform. Come prepared with at least three poems. Memorization is optional, but encouraged.

Edson show ends soon
The much-heralded exhibit showing more than 100 photographs by famed photographer Norman Stewart Edson at the Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Museum ends this weekend.
The show, which ends June 8, can be viewed during special museum hours: 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Edson, who made his home on Vashon from 1921 to 1968, was considered a renaissance man who studied painting, wrote poetry, played the violin and was a Seattle radio personality. As a photographer, he’s known for his nature shots, his photos of pioneer men and women and his photos of American Indians.
Watermark makes mark
Vashon’s Watermark, which plays folk, acoustic rock, blues and more, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Café Luna.
The band is comprised of Roger Taylor on guitar and vocals, Kevin Almeida on bass and vocals, Larry Lawson on flutes and Charles Reed on guitar and vocals.
