This is a blatant shout-out to our amazingly talented island. Just had to write after this last weekend. Two major productions deserve special recognition. Both are light subjects with seriously competent execution.
Firstly, the high school performance of “The Drowsy Chaperone,” a title that would likely inspire no one to purchase tickets. Dutifully, I attended Saturday evening and found a delightful surprise, a little-known musical that is funny, clever and well-acted. It moved quickly and easily kept the audience entertained. It is an entirely frivolous story with terrific undertones of satire and the human condition. Do not miss it. It is still going on this weekend. I’m already planning on going back.
And secondly, the Vashon Opera production, “Albert Herring.” Yet another frivolous story with complex and interesting music, unusual instrumentation, impressive voices and much humor, again highlighting the human condition.
You, too, will come away marveling at what you can drive down the road to see on our island.
