The Greta Matassa Quartet will bring hot jazz to Island jazz aficionados on Saturday, in the finale to Vashon Allied Arts’ Panache Jazz Series.

Matassa, who has been touted as “a marvel of virtuosity” by the Los Angeles Times, will be joined onstage by well-known Northwest players, including pianist Darin Clendenin, bassist Clipper Anderson and percussionist Mark Ivester.

Matassa will croon songs from her latest album, “I Wanna Be Loved,” and take listener requests.

“I like the spontaneity of having something thrown at me, someone saying, ‘here, field this, and see what you can do with it,’” she said.

A Northwest native, Matassa started developing her jazz chops early, singing along to recordings by Fred Astaire, Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra. She has performed with top players, including Michael Powers and Randy Halberstadt, and recently played her first gig in New York City at a sold-out show at Dizzy’s Club. In addition to touring, Matassa teaches vocal jazz techniques.
