Café Luna’s monthly open mic will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 4, hosted by Islander David Ray. Alex Davis, an Islander and leader of the band Yes Mam, will be the featured performer. Everyone is invited to perform and to listen to music, poetry, stories, monologues and more.

Tara Bullock, Shawn Figeroa and Kelsey Alina will perform in a singer/songwriter showcase at 9 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Buddha Bar & Lounge.

Turner Down will play a free show at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi. The band includes Jack Barbash, Luke McQuillin, Doug Ringer and Fletcher Andrews. The group creates instrumentally driven, rock-flavored jazz, fusion and blues. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m. and for ages 21 and older after that.

Holly Boaz, a local soprano, and New York-based pianist Shelby Rhoades will present “To Be Sung on the Water,” an evening of art songs and arias, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Vashon Methodist Church. The program will celebrate the moon, night, water, trees, home, dreams and, of course, love. Works by Schubert, Rachmaninov, Dvořák, Britten and more will be included. Boaz and Rhoades have collaborated since 2004, when they met at the Aspen Music Festival. Boaz has performed with the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Young Artists Program, Tacoma Opera, Connecticut Opera and the Aldeburgh Festival and was seen recently by Vashon audiences as the mother and grandmother in Vashon Opera’s production of “Little Red Riding Hood.” She is currently on the faculty of Pacific Lutheran University. Rhoades is a member of the vocal arts department coaching staff at the Juilliard School in New York and works as a freelance vocal coach and accompanist. The recital is a benefit for Vashon Opera. Alicia Healey, a Seattle-based performing songwriter specializing in Americana folk-pop-rock music, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Café Luna. Joining Healey will be Lisa Mills on harmonica and vocals, Laurie Miller on electric guitars and Kelly Paletta on drums.

“Dead Elvis,” a benefit for the Backbone Campaign, will feature dozens of local singers and bands performing either Elvis or Grateful Dead songs. The benefit starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi.

Rebecca Spencer, a Broadway and Las Vegas chanteuse, will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Blue Heron. Spencer will be accompanied by Broadway and Las Vegas conductor Philip Fortenberry. Spencer, who recently moved to Vashon, is a noted Broadway performer who has played leading roles in “Jekyll and Hyde” and “Phantom of the Opera” and appeared in countless professional productions nationwide. Free Range Folk Choir will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Vashon Methodist Church. Under the direction of Shane Jewell, the choir celebrates the ways that music from around the world can lift the spirit and cultivate community. Admission is free; donations in support of the event are welcome.
