With quiet grace, long-time Islander Dee Weedin passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024.
Dee lived a life of purpose and compassion. Humble and private, she avoided the limelight yet left her mark on countless lives—both human and animal.
Dee’s greatest passion was animal rescue, a calling she embraced with her whole heart. Her rescue work was not a side project but a life’s mission woven into the fabric of her being. Dee’s focus was often on those overlooked—the elderly, the special needs, and hospice cats who had nowhere else to go. For these souls, Dee created a sanctuary, building two cozy, cat-only houses on her property, each outfitted with catios where cats could bask in the sun and fresh air. These spaces were a testament to her boundless dedication and belief that every animal deserves safety, comfort, and love.
In addition to her animal rescue work, the island community also knew her as a firefighter, a trusted personal caregiver and assistant, and a steadfast part of the team at Vashon Community Care. In her later years, Dee was also an enthusiastic member of the Vashon Senior Center.
Dee also lived a life rich with adventure. She traveled extensively, exploring the cultures of Asia and Europe, always returning home with new stories and a broadened perspective.
Dee is survived by her sister and half-sister, as well as nieces and nephews.
To those who knew her, Dee was a steadfast and true friend, a humble heroine, and a beacon of good who will be deeply missed. She showed that true legacy isn’t measured in accolades but in lives touched and hearts healed.
In honor of her life and wishes, donations can be made to a local animal rescue, ensuring her tireless work for the most vulnerable animals continues.
