One of Vashon’s most revered singer/songwriters, Kat Eggleston, will share the stage with her longtime friend and musical partner, Kate MacLeod, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Vashon Havurah.
Eggleston is an artist of great range who has inspired audiences for decades with her strong, clear voice, her masterful fingerstyle guitar technique, her research and interpretation of traditional music, and her powerful original songs.
She has collaborated onstage and in recordings with a variety of musicians over the years, including MacLeod, David Bromberg, Tom Dundee, and Irish music supergroups Bohola and the David Munnelly band.
Also an actor, Eggleston appeared onstage at Chicago’s Briar Street Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre’s Garage Space, and Victory Gardens Theatre in the acclaimed “Snow Queen,” along with its composer Michael Smith.
She has made her mark on Vashon’s theater scene with several noteworthy contributions. These include her 2019 play, “The Cyclone Line,” detailing the Dust Bowl experience of her father as a child in Oklahoma; composing and performing original songs in Vashon Repertory Theatre’s productions of “Kissing the Joy as it Flies: The Wit and Brian Doyle,” staged in 2019 and again this year; and her original music for “Oscar’s Journey,” also staged this year by Vashon Rep.
Eggleston has many recordings, both solo and in collaboration, including an award-winning solo album “Speak.”
MacLeod is a noted singer and songwriter inspired by American roots music and an award-winning fiddle player specializing in Scottish, Irish, American and improvisational fiddling.
She has toured throughout North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom, and is known for her original songs, instrumentals, and creative renditions of traditional and popular music. In concert, her set list ranges from her own songs to Scottish ballads, to beloved standard folk rock standards. Since her first recording, produced by Charles Sawtelle of Hot Rize, her songs have been recorded by other artists including Laurie Lewis and Mollie O’Brien.
MacLeod was chosen by the Far-West division of Folk Alliance International for its 2019 Best of the West Award. In addition to her Americana and folk music, she is a versatile composer and received the 2019 Alfred Lambourne Friends of the Great Salt Lake Award for an original violin duet. In February 2022, she released “Uranium Maiden,” a 2-CD compilation of original music inspired by the Utah region.
She shares her residence between her Salt Lake City home, and Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
