ELECTION
Vote no on I-2066
I urge Vashon residents to vote no on Initiative 2066.
This initiative would drive up energy costs, restrict local decision-making, and reverse Washington’s progress on climate emissions.
Burning gas for heating and power generates a quarter of Washington’s climate emissions. Recent policies encourage high-efficiency electric appliances, like heat pumps, which reduce energy bills and provide heating and cooling. I-2066 would repeal or threaten these policies, such as Washington’s shift to high-efficiency heat pumps in new construction, Seattle’s zero-emission standards for large buildings, and efforts to assess alternatives to new gas infrastructure.
This initiative isn’t about “choice” — it’s backed by wealthy out-of-state interests that profit from fossil fuels, while the rest of us, and the planet, bear the climate costs. Washington’s current laws already protect our freedom to choose energy sources, and existing policies provide rebates to make clean, affordable options like heat pumps more accessible. Initiative 2066 would eliminate these rebates, increasing costs for families and undoing progress on affordable, cleaner energy.
Our island is fortunate to have strong environmental advocates like the Vashon Climate Action Group and Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition. They recognize I-2066’s risks and stand united against it.
Let’s protect local decision-making, keep critical rebates for clean appliances, and ensure we can continue building a sustainable future. Vote NO on I-2066 to support our community, reduce costs, and stay on the path to a cleaner Washington.
