Mary Lee Hutchinson

She loved gardening and baking, took pride in her Irish ancestry and had a strong will.

Mary Lee Hutchinson, 90, died Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Swedish Hospital Cherry Hill with her family by her side.

Mary Lee was born January 11, 1934 in Portland, Or., to Wesley and Frances Verd. Her family later relocated to Hunts Point Wa., where Mary Lee developed a love for horses. As an accomplished rider, Mary Lee traveled the state to compete in Pole Bending competitions, and was admired for her gracefulness on her beloved horse Boots.

After graduating from Forest Ridge Catholic Girls School in Seattle, she went on to study at Seattle University.

Mary Lee married Thomas W. Hutchinson in 1956 and raised her family in Kirkland, Wa., before moving to Vashon Island in 1986. For many years she could be found at the Saturday Market, selling her delectable breads and baked goods to the community.

Mary Lee is survived by her brother Thomas (Teresa) Verd, her five children, Christopher (Shannon) Hutchinson, Michael Hutchinson, Kathleen (Mark) Johnson, Patricia (Joe) Wood, Timothy (Olga) Hutchinson, along with five grand children, four great grand children, and her beloved dog Caleigh. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Patrick Verd, and two grand children.

Mary Lee will be remembered for her love of gardening and baking, her pride in her Irish ancestry and her strong will.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 26th at 11:00am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 16100 115th Ave SW, Vashon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Seattle Food Bank, or St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
