Long time Vashon resident, Carol Frontiero, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on May 15, 2024. She is survived by her younger sister, Judith Ames King, and her brother-in-law Rick and niece, Sumner Ames , her two sons, William and Peter, daughter-in-law Sheri Frontiero, and her daughter Bridget Soto. She has four grandsons, Jeff and James Frontiero and Tony and Gabe Soto, each had a special bond with their Grammy and loved her very much.

Carol was a fixture as an employee at Vashon Community Care Center (VCCC) for almost 40 years. She retired when the facility closed in 2021. She is remembered by many as kind hearted and an advocate for quality care and patient rights. Before she retired at 72, she fought to keep the nursing facility open several times and was key to keeping the residents healthy and the facility free from COVID. She was a shop steward and one of the SEIU organizers at both VCCC and other nursing facilities. She stood up for healthcare workers and gave a voice to those who didn’t have one. Anyone who knew her would say she was passionate about what she believed in and a force to be reckoned with.

Carol’s family has always been incredibly proud of her and inspired by her. She has always been the glue that held the family together and lent a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Carol strove to stay independent. She spent the last few years of her life relaxing and enjoying retirement. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, reading books, sewing, crocheting and doing things with her family. Her family will be having a memorial at Dig Deep Gardens on Sunday July 7th, from 2-5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to drop by, share memories, and celebrate Carol’s life with her friends and family.
