Marcus Rezak

Road warrior Marcus Rezak will return to Open Space for Arts & Community at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2 with a set ranging from his high-octane Grateful Dead tributes to his most recent work, “Guitar Head,” a hybrid of jam and his “Home of the Blues” Chicago roots.

Rezak produced “Guitar Head” in collaboration with Grammy award-winner Paul Nelson.

Jam in the Atrium

This coming Saturday’s installment of the ongoing “Jam In The Atrium” series spotlights Northwest jazz royalty — the great D’Vonne Lewis, drummer, composer, leader, recording artist, and true visionary of the Seattle music scene.

The winner of the Essentially Ellington Drum Soloist award for the years 2000, 2001 and 2002; Earshot’s 2006 Jazz’s “Emerging Artist of the Year” prize; The Stranger’s 2014 “Genius” award; and Earshot’s 2013, 2018, and 2021 “Instrumentalist of the Year” prizes, Lewis has performed with Macklemore/Ryan Lewis; Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, tap dance legend Savion Glover, among many other greats.

Joining him for “Jazz in the Atrium” will be his longtime duet partner, revered jazz pianist Josh Rawlings, and series host Bruce Phares. See the show from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Vashon Center for the Arts.

Beauty and the Beast

Cheer on a cast of 51 musical theatre students as they bring “Beauty and the Beast” to life in three performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11, and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Vashon Center for the Arts. Based on the Broadway production that ran for more than 13 years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, this “tale as old as time” is a crowd-pleaser that’s fun for the whole family.

Romeo and Juliet

Vashon Opera will bring “Romeo and Juliet’s timeless tale of passion, intrigue, a secret marriage, and a deadly duel to life at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Vashon Center for the Arts. A star-studded cast of opera world luminaries will perform in composer Charles Gounod’s masterpiece retelling of Shakespeare’s tragic love story. Find out more and get tickets at vashonopera.org.
