Cheerful, loving, thoughtful and kind, these adjectives best describe Marjorie, who passed away peacefully at her home in Arizona October 27, 2023.
Marjorie was born on July 21, 1924, in Spokane, Washington. She attended Lewis & Clark High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jim Davey, a Gonzaga graduate, after his return from World War II.
They moved to Seattle, Washington to raise their children, Joyce, Tom, and Mary. Marjorie and Jim were active members of Holy Family and St Bernadette Catholic parishes in south Seattle. For over six years, they were the Adult Moderators of St Bernadette’s Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). They loved working with the teenagers and the teenagers loved them. Marjorie’s family was everything. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Auntie, friend, and neighbor. Her Christmas Cookie Baking party was always a family hit. As a niece once said, “Aunt Marge was Christmas.”
Marjorie was a woman in motion. From building a bookcase as a room divider to helping create dioramas for a child’s homework project, she enjoyed and took pride in everything she did. She was a gifted seamstress and sent children and grandchildren alike, to special occasions and Halloween parties dressed in the best of outfits. She could fix a leaky sink just as well as prepare her delicious, scalloped potatoes. “Give it to Grandma, Margie—she can fix anything” was a common family mantra.
At 99 years of age, she was still delivering her trademark chocolate cake to neighbors on their special occasions. Her positive spirit, perseverance and quick humor were inspiring. Still enjoying her favorite sports teams, current events, and political debates, shecwas a poster child for the Greatest Generation. Her upbeat personality brought joy to the many who loved her. She is truly missed.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, son, Tom, grandson, Bryan Vornbrock and son-in-law, Mark Vornbrock. She is survived by her daughters Joyce Vornbrock, Mary (Bob) Swope, grandchildren Andrew (Amanda) Vornbrock, Sarah (Lee) Kaplan, Laura (Curtis Nichol) Vornbrock and great-grandchildren Tyler, Stella, James, “Millie” and Leo and countless nieces and nephews.
