King County has released the final results from each voter precinct for this year’s general election — which means a trove of interesting data on Vashon’s neighborhoods is now available.

Here are some takeaways from Vashon’s 19 voter districts by looking at one of the island’s most impactful races: King County Council District 8, between Seattle city councilmember Teresa Mosqueda and Burien mayor Sofia Aragon.

Every district on Vashon voted in favor of Mosqueda, but the margins varied. “Portage” and “Maury,” two of the three Maury Island precincts, were the two that supported Aragon the most — voting only 57% and 58% for Mosqueda, respectively. (Those precincts form the upper half of Maury Island.)

On the other side, the “Cove” and “Dolphin” precincts were most supportive of Mosqueda — voting 71% and 74% for her, respectively. (Cove surrounds Fisher Pond and the area west of it, and Dolphin forms the northern tip of the island around Wingehaven Park.)

Organized by region, the precincts around central Vashon supported Mosqueda the most, lending an average of 68% support to her. Maury Island voters, overall, were the least supportive, voting for Mosqueda only by 60%.

Voter turnout for the November general election was the lowest on record for a general election in Washington state history, according to the Seattle Times. Washington’s Secretary of State reported that 36.8% of Washington residents returned a ballot and that 37.8% of King County residents did so.

As per usual, Vashonites were among the leaders in voter turnout, even in a relatively depressed year for turnout. Out of 9232 registered voters, 4800 returned a ballot, according to King County elections data, or 52%.

Overall voter turnout was highest in the “Dolphin” and “Colvos” (around the Colvos Store) precincts, reaching around 60%. It was lowest at the south end of the island; the “Sealth” and “Tahlequah” precincts posted 46% and 48% turnout, respectively. (They make up the south end of Vashon island along Vashon Highway’s west and east sides, respectively.)

Organized by region, the precincts around Quartermaster Harbor posted the best turnout (56%), followed by North Vashon (54%). South Vashon voters, overall, had the lowest turnout on the island, with only 47%.
