Organizers have put together a night of music, poetry and personal stories to raise money for The DoVE Project, a new program that aims to help Islanders who are victims of domestic violence. 

The show, slated for 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Red Bicycle Bistro, is billed as “Voices Against Violence — Women Sing Out for the Silent.” It will showcase performances by an all-female ensemble, including Sarah Christine, Adrienne Selvy Mildon, Kelsey Alina, Allison Shirk, Karen Hancock, Julia Hanowell, Madeleine Wolczko, Maya Battisti, Emma Amiad, Christie Phillips and Melody Zavis.

Organizers of the benefit say they hope to raise $10,000 for The DoVE Project. There is a suggested donation of $20 for the show. 

The DoVE Project, a program of Vashon Youth & Family Services, aims to fill a void that was created more than two years ago on Vashon, when another program that provided services on the Island lost its funding.

The new effort was launched last month, with seed money from Vashon’s Healthy Community Network, after a task force found that the presence of an advocate who could work directly with victims made a significant difference in the number of victims who sought support.
