Islanders who take their recycling to the King County Transfer Station can now combine most of their recyclable materials, and some new materials are also being accepted, according to an announcement from King County. Cardboard will continue to be collected separately.

Materials that were not able to be recycled previously at the transfer station but are now accepted include large lids (3 inches or more), paper cups and plastic items such as cups, pill bottles and plant pots.

The list of recyclables now includes paper food boxes without liners, paper, hard and paperback books, telephone books, milk, juice and broth cartons, plastic bottles, plastic food containers, shredded paper, tin and aluminum cans and glass bottles and jars.

People who subscribe to curbside recycling services  through Vashon Disposal should continue to separate their recyclables at this time, according to a company representative.
