As the second half of the girls soccer season got under way, the Seattle Christian Warriors strengthened their claim to Nisqually League supremacy Oct. 8 at the expense of the Vashon Pirates, dominating 3-0.

Vashon started out strong but couldn’t find the goal before a defensive bobble allowed Warrior ace Terrika Weaver to beat goalkeeper Sophie Nespor one-on-one. Seattle Christian held a 2-0 advantage at the half.

Injuries didn’t help the Pirates, but the Warriors controlled most of the game with their accurate passing and ball control.

Pirate midfield standout Kiki Means was injured midway in the game and will likely miss the next few games.

Game day was also blood drive day at Vashon High, and defender Brooke Pringle donated blood for the first time. Unfortunately she didn’t see the warning against vigorous physical activity until after she had donated a pint, and clearly felt the effects during the game.

The Pirate JV, with only 11 semi-healthy players, returned to Charles Wright on Wednesday. Six days earlier the Pirates defeated the Tarrier JV 2-0. This time it ended in a 3-3 tie.

This time the Tarriers got two first half goals. Vashon came back with second half scores from Samantha Clements, assisted by Taylor Hernandez; Megan Hackett unassisted and Anna Osborne assisted by Hackett.

Just when it looked as if the Pirates could hang on for a win, a defensive lapse gave the Tarriers the tying score.

The varsity Pirates were scheduled to play at Orting yesterday and travel to Life Christian tomorrow before returning home for the last three games of the regular season.
