Students from Vashon High School’s drama department are gearing up to perform what’s being billed as an “eight-course meal for the theatrical gourmet” this Thursday through Sunday.

The students will tackle a program of eight 10-minute plays. The program, grouped under the title of “Eat My Shorts,” has a wide appeal, according to drama teacher Stephen Floyd.

“There’s something for everyone — comedy and drama, political satire and farcical mystery, budding romance and breaking up, psychics and psychotherapy, talking animals and food flinging,” said Floyd.

This will be a farewell performance for many in the cast who are graduating: Anna Smith, Lea Zaglin, Meme Garcia-Cosgrove, Nolan Shinn, Dylan Payne, Graeme Britz and Drew Ward.

In the show are “The Spot” by Steven Dietz; “That Midnight Rodeo,” by Mary Sue Price; “The Blueberry Hill Accord,” by Daryl Watson; “There Shall Be No Bottom (a bad play for worse actors),” by Mark O’Donnell; “Please Have a Seat and Someone Will Be with You Shortly,” by Garth Wingfield; “Your Mother’s Butt,” by Alan Ball; “Surprise,” by Mark Harvey Levine; and “Duet for Bear and Dog,” by Sybil Rosen.

The plays are directed by Stephen Floyd, Harris Levinson and students Garcia-Cosgrove and Josh Hatfield.

Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, June 3 to 5, at Vashon High School Theatre. Tickets, available at the door, are $5.

The performance is not recommended for young children. Floyd said it is rated PG-13 for mild profanity and adult situations.
