Singer, songwriter and activist Jim Page will play a free show at Red Bicycle Bistro at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8. Page has shared the stage with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Dan Bern, Michelle Shocked, J.J. Cale, Robert Hunter, Chuck Brodsky and John Hammond. His songs have been performed by Christy Moore, Michael Hedges, John Trudell, The Doobie Brothers and David Soul. The Whateverly Brothers (Dan Roberts, Chris Glanister and Matthew Moeller) will appear at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Café Luna. Members of the trio have performed as solo artists and members of folk groups across the Pacific Northwest. Roberts is a Berkeley folkie, trained in opera, whose voice spans three octaves. He also plays a mean set of spoons. Glanister, of English origins, loved Burl Ives and Pete Seeger as well as Led Zeppelin and classical music, and he plays whistle, bohdran and cittern. He particularly enjoys the Scottish and maritime influences in the music he plays. Moeller was born and raised in the Northwest. He loves rain and foggy days as well as water and boats, which provide much material for his songs.
From Vashon with Love: A Celebration of Music, a concert featuring Troll’s Cottage, Robyn Landis, Rod Smith and other local artists, is coming up on Friday, Jan. 15, at Red Bicycle Bistro. “After the Storm,” a documentary film that follows a group of New Orleans teens as they stage a production of a hurricane-themed musical, will have its Northwest premiere at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Vashon Theatre. The screening is a benefit for The Harbor School’s upcoming study trip to New Orleans. The film’s director, Hilla Medalia, will attend. Tickets, $7, are available in advance at Vashon Bookshop. The film will also be shown at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, as a fundraiser for Vashon Theatre.
