I have always appreciated your columns, Scott Durkee. The latest one, “Looking back with gratitude, looking forward with hope” (March 9 Beachcomber), was exceptional. Commentary hits home

The commentary by Osha Christianson, about Vashon HouseHold’s home-sharing program (March 9 Beachcomber), remind’s me of Vashon’s housing crisis. Our situation is that we have provided affordable housing to our daughter (a registered nurse) and her presence is allowing these old-timers to age in place. So far, she hasn’t found RN work on the island but hopes to in order to avoid commuting.

SWEENEY TODD

A brilliant show

I would like to express my appreciation to Stephanie Murray, Charlotte Tiencken, and those responsible for bringing “Sweeney Todd,” the musical, to Vashon. Without exception, each element was astounding — the exemplary voices, sets, costumes, music, lighting, choreography, all expertly executed. Friends and those I’ve spoken with agree. It was spectacular. Thanks to Vashon Center for the Arts and the cast and crew for making this fine production accessible to all.
