Memorial Service to be held Saturday, January 7th, at 2:00 pm at the Vashon Methodist Church.

Born in Seattle in 1929, to Ray and Jenny Crocker, Barbara lived her life on Vashon Island where she passed away peacefully on December 27th.

Barbara was a graduate of Vashon High School in 1947, and married her husband of 59 years, Max Steen, in 1950. She worked at Beall Greenhouse Co, for 20 years, and RTS for 20 years as well as was the secretary for King County Cemetery district for 25 years.

Barbara loved to golf, was a charter member of Vashon Golf and Country club, where she served on many committees, elected positions, and held title club champion more than once.

Throughout her life, Barbara served on many fundraisers, community events and school events. Many remember Barbara and Max as chaperones at high school dances, or coaching youth baseball or being involved in both Boy and Girl Scouts.

Barbara loved to travel, golf in Hawaii and visiting relatives across the continent and in Norway.

She was active in the Vashon Methodist Church, and United Methodist Woman.

Barbara spent 50 years volunteering at Vashon Maury Island Heritage Museum, and served on the board of directors, ran many fundraisers, served as treasurer and memorial fund chairman, as well as running for unofficial Mayor of Vashon, as the museum candidate.

She is survived by daughter Marsha Berry (Alan), Grandchildren Christopher Steen, Justin Berry, and Kayla Berry, and great-grandchildren: Joseph, Abigail and Fjord Berry, Lillian and Allena Steen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, and son, Gordon.

It was Barbara’s wish that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Vashon Maury Island Heritage Museum, or Vashon United Methodist Church.
