‘The Ruins of Memory’ at VCA
Tales of the Alchemysts Theatre, in partnership with Vashon Havurah, will present “The Ruins of Memory: Women’s Voices of the Holocaust” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA).
Combining live music, sound and movement with spoken word, the production includes tales of resistance and resilience from fiction, poetry, and oral histories by survivors and victims of the Holocaust, spotlighting the stories of women from both the Ashkenazi and Sephardic communities.
The production at VCA, with sound design by island theater artist Max Sarkowsky, will launch a fall tour of the production to Seattle-area churches, synagogues, libraries and stages.

Famed circus comes to town
One of the oldest, self-supporting theatrical companies in the US, Bread and Puppet Theater, has now embarked on a rare tour of its “Apocalypse Defiance Circus” — an up-to-date version of one of its most raucous and joyful seminal works, “Our Domestic Resurrection Circus,” first performed 50 years ago.
The production — complete with giant puppets, huge masks and expressive singing and movement — stops on Vashon at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Open Space for Arts & Community. Doors for the show open at 2 p.m. that day.
