The Vashon Pirates High School football team beat their divisional rival, the Klahowya Eagles, under Friday night lights, on the VHS field, on Sept. 30, with an adoring and vocal crowd in the grandstand.
It was a hard-fought battle that featured strong defenses, senior Holland Moore kicked the deciding field goal with under two minutes left in the game to give the Pirates a 17 to 14 victory.
Ecstatic fans were given permission to rush the field, when the clock ran out, for a joyous celebration.
The feisty and talented team, led by new head coach Manu Samanna-Spagnoli, currently sits at 4 and 0 for the first time in multiple decades.
The team is preparing for the next two away games vs East Jefferson (Port Townsend) and Granite Falls, and will next play at home on Homecoming Night, Friday, Oct. 21, against their perennial rival Cascade Christian.
