The Vashon Lacrosse Club had an incredible 2022 season with athletes, coaches and families all coming together in an expression of community support for lacrosse.
You might think that during the off-season, it’s easy to forget about lacrosse. On the contrary, Vashon Lacrosse Club has an exciting weekly program of drop-in lacrosse scrimmages that has been going on all summer and has been quite successful.
If playing isn’t for you, there are other ways to get involved and support our island youth.
Weekly drop-in lacrosse scrimmages
On Wednesday evenings, from 7 to 8 p.m., at Vashon High School (VHS) fields, Vashon Parks has generously sponsored a drop-in lacrosse program that is open to all ages, all genders and consists of “3 vs. 3” lacrosse scrimmages. Everyone is welcome to participate.
The seven-minute-long games are non-contact and played with soft balls, with teams made up of three players each. Players only require a lacrosse stick — but the Vashon Club has extras for those who need to borrow one.
We often have three to four games going at once. Come join us under the lights on Wednesdays — it’s a great opportunity for more experienced players to keep stick skills sharp, or for those who are lacrosse-curious but have not tried it yet, a great way to check out the game and learn to catch and throw with your friends.
Girls’ lacrosse youth program
Throughout the month of October, the girls’ lacrosse coaches and girls’ high school players would like to extend a special invitation to elementary and middle school-aged students to join in on these “3 vs. 3” lacrosse nights. This is a great opportunity to work with girls’ coaches and players and learn a few basic lacrosse skills. We have lacrosse sticks to share and encourage parents to join in the fun as well.
2023 registration opens Oct. 1
At Vashon Lacrosse Club, we have been actively planning for next season and are ready to put some teams together.
Registration for the club’s “Fall Ball” program for high school boys (Nov. 4 through Dec. 4), and the club’s 2023 season, both open on Saturday, Oct. 1. In addition to high school boys’ and girls’ teams, the club also has a youth program with excellent coaches and enthusiastic players and families.
Lacrosse is more than just a sport, it’s a community, and we welcome all to join us. Practices for youth and high school teams begin in February and March 2023. Visit vashonlacrosse.net for more information and to sign up.
