The Vashon-Maury Island Community Council is seeking new board members to fill four vacancies created by recent resignations, positions open to any resident over age 18.
“Being on the board offers the chance to represent all Vashon Island residents and create interesting and relevant programs as well as communicating with King County officials, so our needs and voices continue to be heard,” according to a news release by the community council.
All board terms will expire at the end of November 2012, so those selected will fill out the approximate remaining year and two months. Board members are expected to attend a monthly board meeting held in the evening on the first Monday of each month as well as the general council meeting on the third Monday evening of the month.
Those who are interested in learning more about being on the board or who wish to apply should send an email to Tim Johnson, VMICC’s board president, at tim.vmicc@gmail.com. Applicants should include some background about themselves as well as their telephone number. Interviews will be conducted by the board in September and October with decisions made by the board and presented to the community council for its acceptance at the next regular meeting.
Those with questions may also telephone Carl Sells, VMICC’s vice president, at 898-1419 for more information.
The board members who resigned are AnnaLisa LaFayette, Frederick Woodruff, Tom Bangasser and John Staczek. Remaining on the board, besides Sells and Johnson, are Doug Skove, Bill Rowling and Gay Rosser.
