First, dear Islanders, I would like to wish us all a white winter (more practice at driving in the snow!).
Second, thanks to The Beachcomber staff for their efforts to cover our wacky Island!
Third, muchas gracias to McMurray administrators and teachers for the warm (and flexible) welcome that our un-schooling family has received.
Fourth, I would like to appreciate the Drama Dock community. Thanks so much for all you do. Stephen Floyd and Vashon High School students: Huge kudos for “The Laramie Project.” While my son cannot understand why people hate those who are different from themselves, it is good for him to know that some people do exactly that.
Fifth? The law. What will happen now that the liquor law has changed? I dread buying my groceries behind someone on a bender.
Sixth, I sincerely hope that the farmers can convince the school superintendent that those selling healthy (and safe) produce at the Farmer’s Market really are the same ones offering to provide healthy food for the school lunch program!
Seventh, the Occupy Move-ments all over the world matter! Please turn off the TV and get online so that you can stop saying, “I don’t know what it’s all about.” Change is here. With participation you can influence whether it is for good or ill.
Eighth, I hope whoever complained about the elves understands that it was an unfortunate choice. When one lives among others, it is important to remember that accepting an inconvenience can be a great gift if it helps others to be warm, fed, clothed or receive medical care.
