Track team competes at Orting

The Pirate track and field team competed in an exciting five-team meet last Thursday at Orting High School.

The Pirate track and field team competed in an exciting five-team meet last Thursday at Orting High School.

The boys scored 42 team points that were all contributed by Tyler Stoffer, James Spencer and Colin Andrus. 

Spencer set a personal record in the 200 meters, placing second in 23.96. He also placed second in the 100 meters at 11.89. 

In the 110 high hurdles, Stoffer placed first in 16.28. and Spencer was the runner up in 18.2. They contributed 14 points to the overall team score in this event. 

Stoffer also placed third in the high jump with a leap of 5’6”. Andrus set two personal records as he added 14 points for the boys’ team by winning the 1600 meters in 4:48.6 and taking second in the 800 meters at 2:04.29. 

Samantha Clements set season records in all four events she participated in. This included a second-place finish in the triple jump at 29’11”. 

Peri Roberts had another stellar performance in the 3200 meters, placing third in 13:58. Rachel Hoffman placed third in the 100 meters in 14.3 and third in the high jump with a leap of four feet. The girls 4 by 400 relay team, consisting of Emma Lodes, Peri Roberts, Alia Payne and Savannah Krug, gathered a few team points by placing third with a time of 4:29.

Orting took first in both the girls and boys meet, and Charles Wright came in second in both meets as well. Vashon’s boys and girls teams both took fourth.

The last regular season meet will be tomorrow at Orting, with Cascade Christian, Life Christian and Seattle Christian also competing. 

From there, many Pirate athletes will go on to compete in the Nisqually League championship meet, also at Orting on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13.
