Early Music concert
“Baroque Quartet,” a concert by the Salish Sea Early Music Festival, will feature internationally known soloists harpsichordist Elisabeth Wright, viola da gambist Susie Napper, baroque violinist David Greenberg and baroque flutist Jeffrey Cohan in a performance of François Couperin’s “L’Apothéose de Lully,” a “Paris Quartet” by Georg Philipp Telemann, “Pièces en Trio” by Marin Marais and other works. The concert takes place at 12 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Vashon’s Church of the Holy Spirit, at 15420 Vashon Highway S.W. Stars shine at VCA
Vashon Center for the Arts will present a May 12 benefit concert for Ukraine, featuring Kesselgarden Klezmer Duo and The Klein Party, playing a spirited evening of klezmer, Gypsy, Yiddish theater music and much more. “An Evening of Song with Kevin Joyce and Friends” takes place on May 13; a jazz concert with Bruce Phares and Jeremy Bacon paying tribute to composer Bill Evans happens on May 15; and a concert by Devotcha will take place on May 20 and 21.

Sera Cahoone plays
Debra Heesch and Vashon Theatre will present Americana singer-songwriter Sera Cahoone in a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 14. As a young adult, Cahoone played drums with the indie rock group, Carissa’s Weird, and later Band of Horses. She has released four solo acoustic records, two with Sub Pop. In 2019, she received a gold record for her work with Band of Horses. Get tickets, $20, at vashontheatre.com.
Event for Haiti will feature music, food
A fundraiser bash for Haiti, “Isle to Isle,” will take place on Saturday, May 14, with two shows — one at 3 p.m. for families and the older generation, and another, more lively show at 6 p.m. The concerts, said organizer Jill Beytebiere, will boast music acts from Chris Anderson, The Kings of Mongrel Folk, The Curvettes, Gus Reeves, Lonesome Mike Nichols, Marita Eriksen, Beanie Johnson, a Seattle rapper, and others.
Vanessa Petit Homme, an islander from Haiti, will speak and also prepare her favorite Haitian dishes for those attending. The Beytebiere family, former owners of Bob’s Bakery, plan to provide baked goods free of charge.
Admission is free with donations accepted to go to food relief for Haiti, where islander Jill Beytebiere oversees a volunteer-run nonprofit, founded in 2019, called Inspiration 2 Go. Get involved or find out more by emailing inspiration2go.org@gmail.com.
Call for ‘5 Minute Wonders’
Vashon Repertory Theatre is calling for five-minute performance pieces for a series of new dance and performance works to be curated by UMO Ensemble artists Elizabeth Klob and Janet McAlpin. This series is focused on new voices and those who are typically not heard or seen. Performances will take place during the Vashon Rep Summer Fest, in July.
