Clay and charcoal drawing classes are about to get underway at Vashon Allied Arts.

Clay classes begin in October at Blue Heron Pottery, located at Beall Greenhouses.

Children ages 6 to 10 will make polar bears, puffins and penguins with Liz Lewis. The class is offered from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, starting Oct. 1.

Another class taught by Lewis will offer plenty of wheel time and instruction in making pots with a Southwest feel.

The class, for teens and adults, will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, starting Oct. 2. Experienced potters can arrange unlimited open studio time by calling Amy Kitchener, at 463-5131.

Rebecca Dvorin Strong will teach a one-day charcoal drawing workshop for teens and adults from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. Strong will provide simple still-life setups and demonstrate using painterly techniques. All levels are encouraged to have fun with this class.

Complete class schedule, registration and scholarship forms are available now at Blue Heron and at www.vashonalliedarts.org. Call 463-5131 for more information.
