Chautauqua traffic signs stolen, compromising safety | Letter to the Editor

I am a life-long islander and teacher at Chautauqua Elementary School. This summer, after spending a year out of work because of cancer, I am happy to report I am doing fine and back at work. Part of what I do at our school is help with morning arrival and safety. This summer I made four sandwich boards with arrows labeled “Student Drop” and another sign that said “Parking Only” for our lot closest to the school.

During the weekend of Oct. 1 and 2, somebody stole all our signs. I spent a lot of time and my own money to make these signs. They greatly helped our system out there. Now, folks are driving all over, not dropping students off at certain spots and misusing the first parking lot. Our safety has decreased.

We would greatly appreciate the signs returned or to learn of their whereabouts.
