Organizers of the proposed Credit Union Vashon have launched a survey to determine the community’s interest in a credit union and have set a June 1 deadline for responses.
“We want to reach as many people as possible in the next three weeks,” said Bill Moyer, one of the main organizers of the credit union effort. “We encourage everybody to fill out the survey.”
Surveys and drop boxes for them are available at Café Luna, Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie/The Minglement, True Value, The Hardware Store Restaurant, the Vashon Library, Quartermaster Inn and Restaurant, the Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce, Pandora’s Box and Vashon Pharmacy.
The survey is available online, too, at www.CUVashon.org; organizers encourage those who are able to fill it out online to do so, for ease in tabulating the results. Roughly 400 people have completed the survey in the last two weeks, according to Moyer.
A group of about 15 people have been working since the first of the year to try to bring a credit union to fruition on Vashon, which, they believe, would benefit from the competitive interest rates credit unions offer and the local control it would give the Island over money invested here.
