On Thursday, May 15, and Saturday, May 17, the Tri-District 1A Championships were held at King’s High School in Shoreline. The lone state meet participant will be Jacqueline Jewell, who is a senior.
She started Thursday off by taking the district title in the 3,200 in a time of 11:44.25. Jewell ran in a pack with three other competitors for much of the race until the final lap, when she put on a very strong kick to go ahead by 60 meters and claim the top spot on the podium.
On Saturday Jewell qualified for state in the 1,600 as well. This time she placed fifth with a time of 5:25.24. In the 800 finals Jewell placed seventh in 2:30.21.
Other distance runners’ highlights included freshman Savannah Krug setting her personal best time in the 3,200 at 12:10.64 and freshman Leigh Sheridan running the 3,200 meter finals in 12:47.83. Sophomore Kate Straube placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdle final with a time of 16.97.
On the boys’ side in the 300-meter hurdle finals senior Adam Thalhofer placed seventh with a time of 44.28. The boys’ 4×400 relay, consisting of Danny Salonen, Adam Thalhofer, Nathan Betz and James Spencer, broke their personal record in the finals with a time of 3:41.82.
The girls 4×400 with Alana Robinson, Emma Lodes, Alia Payne and Kate Straube broke their personal best with a 4:14.96 and missed going to the state meet by one spot.
