Sean Jeffery Jeardoe, 21, was sentenced in King County Superior Court last week to four years in prison and four years in community custody, an alternative program with many requirements, including substance abuse treatment.

Jeardoe pled guilty last month to 14 felony charges, including several stemming from crimes on Vashon, where he broke into a home last fall and stole a safe with a gun in it and some jewelry. He also stole several backpacks and gym bags from the Jensen Point boathouse.

Leslie Brown, a spokeswoman for the county Department of Public Defense, said Jeardoe received an alternative sentence called a DOSA (Drug Offender Sentencing Alternative), which the defense had requested because of his drug use.

Brown noted that Jeardoe’s birth mother used drugs while she was pregnant with him and his birth family has a long history of drug addiction.

“There’s a chance, with a DOSA sentence, that he’ll be able to change his life and thus end his criminal behavior,” Brown said.
