Island couture on the runway
The Heron’s Nest will be the site of a free fashion show from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19.
Designs from Dova Silks, Wild Life Clothing, Reger 8 and Cicada Bridal Designs will be featured.
Dova Silks is known for hand-dyed silks in a variety of textures.
Wild Life Clothing’s Sally Shrivers designs crisp, tailored looks from silks, tencel and sueded rayons.
Cicada Bridal Design features Elizabeth Klob’s designs, incorporating clean lines and silk fabrics.
Refreshments will be served at the fashion show.
A weekend of music at Luna
This weekend will bring a wealth of music to Café Luna.
Mark Wells and Robyn Landis will perform a free show together at Café Luna at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.
Landis has won more than 30 songwriting honors in competitions, showcases and festivals, including a first-place prize at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival and second place in the Unisong International Songwriting Competition.
Wells is a singer, songwriter and guitarist, who counts James Taylor and Paul Simon among his many influences. In addition to his solo work, Wells performs with various combinations of other Island musicians, including 5:01 and Geordie’s Byre.
Islander Greg Parrott will take Luna’s stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.
Parrot plays in the Vashon band Great Rain, and recently opened for Bill Gates at a Microsoft company meeting.
Calling all Celtic players and knitters
From 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, Café Luna will host Vashon Celtic Players and knitters. This gathering takes place every third Sunday of the month.
More than a dozen musicians are expected to show up to play Irish jigs, reels and polkas. Beginners are welcome — staying with the beat is the only requirement. Songs are listed on the Celtic Player’s Web site at www.home.comcast.net/~saustin98/lark/.
Knitters and crocheters of all abilities are invited to drop in and bring their projects to the café and learn from each other as the Celtic music plays in the background. For more information, contact David Guion at 463-1680.
Acclaimed pianist comes to Blue Heron
Grammy-nominated pianist David Lanz will play a rare and intimate concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Blue Heron.
With more than 20 recordings to his credit, Lanz has had a chart-topping career with nine best-selling solo albums. The landmark “Crisifori’s Dream” held the number one spot on Billboard’s first adult alternative/new age chart for 27 weeks.
