Magic happened at Vashon High School Tuesday night. The high school’s percussion ensemble gave a concert filled with transformative passion and power. It was magic!
Islanders know what a special place Vashon is and some of our richest treasure sparkled and shone under the lights Tuesday night. Ken Quehrn, Mr. “Q,” as he is known by our kids, has inspired them to be the best musicians and people they can be.
He is joined in this effort by drum teacher Todd Zimberg. The proud parents, families and friends of the performers showed their appreciation with loud applause.
The whole ensemble was invited to perform in the state competition, and two of the members, Dylan Greene, who took a first place in solo competition, and Emory Miedema-Boyajian, who took third place in solo competition, performed those solos for the audience again Tuesday night. How fortunate we all were to hear them.
As a part-time Islander, hearing these A-plus performers gave me one more reason to love Vashon. These kids give me hope for the future; they are our future. Treat them well and with loving kindness. They will not disappoint.
