Parents and kids can dance and sing along at a concert by Caspar Babypants at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Chautauqua Elementary School multi-purpose room.
The show is being presented by Vashon Youth & Family Services and the Chautauqua PTSA. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support VYFS’s Family Place and Vashon Kids Scholarships — programs that provide childcare as well as continuing education and support for parents.
Caspar Babypants is the stage moniker of “kindie” music icon Chris Ballew, who first achieved fame in the 1990s as the singer for the Seattle band The Presidents of the United States of America.
Now, as Caspar Babypants, he’s kept on rocking, releasing a total of 14 albums for kids, including his latest, “Keep it Real.” Caspar Babypants makes regular appearances throughout the region, drawing enthusiastic crowds to a mosh pit that is frequently filled with hardcore fans wearing superhero garb, princess dresses, fairy wings, pajamas and bedtime slippers.
His performances are suitable for all ages, but especially guaranteed to rock the worlds of those ages 1 to 6.
Organizers of the show hope to raise donations for Vashon Kids. Through this program, VYFS offers before- and after-school care for children ages 5 to 12. Located at Chautauqua, the program is open to all island kids, with full-time, part-time and drop-in care options. The program provides academic and enrichment activities and clubs focused on science, art, humanities, literacy and sports. Breakfast and after-school snacks are provided, and need-base scholarships are available.
Family Place, another program of VYFS, is aimed at all island families with children from birth through ages 6. Located at 9822 SW Gorsuch Road, Family Place offers parent support and education activities, including ESL classes with childcare provided, Parent’s Night Out childcare and many other services.
