The Vashon High School boys’ lacrosse club finished its 2010 season with a win, a loss and plenty of hope for the 2011 season.

On May 11, Vashon gave its fans a thriller against Tahoma High School. The club took a 4-2 lead in the first quarter.

But Tahoma’s defense stiffened to shut out Vashon in the second while its offense uncorked for five goals to take a 7-4 lead at half.

Tahoma maintained its three-goal lead going into the fourth quarter before Vashon’s offense took over.

With seven minutes to play, junior Hamzah Griffin scored Vashon’s eighth goal to begin a crowd-pleasing comeback.

With 25 seconds left in regulation, freshman Duncan Ende took a pass from Gregor Davidheiser to seal a 12-11 Vashon win.

Seven different Vashon players scored in this game, including 14 goals and assists from five sophomores and freshmen.

Freshman Duncan Ende led scorers with two goals and three assists, while freshman Aaron Bomber recorded 10 saves in goal, and Vashon’s freshmen and sophomore defenders led the team in ground balls.

Vashon closed out its season with a tough 12-7 loss to Tacoma’s Stadium High School.

Though Vashon took multiple shots throughout the game, not enough of them found the back of the net. Several bounced off of the goal pipes.

Stadium’s domination on face-offs frustrated Vashon’s ball control. Despite the loss, Vashon’s future looks bright.

The team will graduate two invaluable seniors — Austin Franks and Cullan Paridon. But it looks to return 21 underclassmen for next season.
