Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi’s upcoming musical offerings will include two bands, each offering a different style of high-energy dance music.
Sugarcaine Mutiny will kick off the weekend at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, with a mix of rock and twang.
A band bio on the group’s MySpace page said Sugarcaine Mutiny blends “the dark humor and storytelling of a Cracker or Wilco with the loud jangly pop of the Smithereens and Fastball.”
The band has also earned rave reviews, including one from Brad Allen, who writes for the Weekly Volcano.
“These seasoned cats found a common thread — smart songwriting, stringent, catchy melodies and a dose of twang,” wrote Allen.
Sugarcane Mutiny has appeared at numerous Seattle music venues as well as Northwest festivals, including Hempfest, Tacoma’s First Night Celebration and the International Pop Overthrow in Portland.
The band’s first album, “Your Town,” was released on the Bristling Barnacle Music label last summer.
Band members include singer-songwriter Jess Grant, bassist Casey Allen, lead guitarist Travis Hartnett and drummer Scott Nordell.
Another well-known group, The Adrian Xavier Band, will take the Bike’s stage for a free show at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
Adrian Xavier is a singer and songwriter with almost 20 years of performances under his belt.
According to Pete Welch, concert promoter, audiences can expect Xavier and his band to play music that bridges the distance between reggae, world fusion, soul and jazz, with a little rock and hip-hop thrown in for good measure.
