George Endlich passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday May 13th in his Vashon home with his family by his side.
Born November 17, 1936 George was 81 and second generation Islander, growing up on Quartermaster Harbor. Survived by his two sons Warren and Geoff Endlich, Warren’s wife Kim, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Preceding him was his wife Donna Endlich, brother Ernie Endlich, and sister Helen Boyle.
After high school George spent seven years in the Navy before going to boat building school in Alaska, of coarse most of those skills were spent on his own personal boats, the Thunderbird, Prost, and the Grey Gull. In 1967 he bought Vashon Lumber & Supply from his Uncle Carl Holert, worked the lumber yard into the 80’s before becoming rental property, and fully retiring in 2010.
“Dad was always there for us… Except when it’s a water fight, then he’d hide in the house as we chased him… Apparently Mom doesn’t like snowballs, fireworks, AND garden hoses in the house!”
A Celebration of George’s life will be held at his home on the 4th of July from 2pm into the evening fireworks display as a pot-luck BBQ.
