Four people were transported to a Seattle hospital on Wednesday night after a three-car accident on Vashon Highway, according to George Brown, assistant chief at Vashon Island Fire and Rescue (VIFR).
VIFR responded to the accident on Vashon Highway north of town at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Brown said a vehicle traveling on the highway apparently sideswiped another vehicle, and one of those vehicles then hit a third car. Two of the vehicles had two passengers inside and vehicle had just one. He didn’t know the cause of the wreck.
Four people involved in the accident were transported via ferry to an off-island hospital, one with serious injuries and three with non-life-threatening injuries, Brown said.
VIFR put all its resources into responding to the accident. Brown said all four paid responders on duty at the time arrived at the scene, as well as four volunteers.
One of the three ambulances transferred a patient to a private ambulance in Seattle in order to return to the island.
“It drained us,” he said. “We were out of folks and equipment.”
