Islanders gathered at Vashon High School on Saturday for the second annual Earth Day celebration, with children’s activities, speakers, music and more. But the event extended beyond those walls and included several days of earth-friendly events, including working in the food bank garden, above.
Andy James, one of the organizers, said those who put on the celebration adapt it each year to what islanders want to learn about and work on. He added that at the Saturday event, it was good to see the connections made by people who staffed the tables, the speakers and performers, and the people who attended.
The event was sponsored by the Vashon Climate Action Group, the Vashon Nature Center, the Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust, Zero Waste Vashon and the Vashon High School Green Team.
