There are plenty of shows happening at downtown venues this weekend.

Kick off the fun on Friday with The Disco Cowboys, an act that takes disco songs and plays them in an outlaw country style. Get ready for countrified takes on hits like “Stayin’ Alive” and “Boogie Nights,” at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Red Bicycle Bistro. There’s no cover charge.

A free weekend of all-local singers and songwriters will happen at Café Luna this weekend. At 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, the duo of Walter and Donny will play music they call “cosmic Americana,” and Pat Reardon, a singer, guitarist and harmonica player, will perform songs he’s written and played on the streets and in cafés all over Seattle and Vashon.  

Mike Dumovich and Correspondence will take the stage at Café Luna at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. Dumovich is a hard-to-peg local songwriter who has won accolades for his Seattle performances. Correspondence is an instrumental flamenco and folk punk band.

Blues legend Mark DuFresne will play a show to benefit Vashon Community Care at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Red Bicycle Bistro. Buy tickets, $10, at local book stores, Vashon Community Care and at the door. 

The Swingin’ with Dean Show will come to the Vashon Library at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 21. Dean Ratzman plays original songs and tunes from the American songbook of the 1940s through 1970s. Expect covers of Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Cole Porter, Ray Charles, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, The Beach Boys, and many other great artists. Free. 

Polish off the weekend by joining a group of celtic players and knitters from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at Café Luna. The group gathers once a month to blend jigs, reels, polkas and crafting projects.
