An art show and a film festival exploring ideas and images of peace will take place on Vashon in November.

Café Luna will host an art show, “A Peace of …Vashon,” all month, with an opening reception slated for Friday, Nov. 7. The show, curated by Kara Jones, Hawk Jones and Lynndee LeBeau, will include work by 20 Island artists.

Vashon’s first-ever Peace Film Festival will also take place, with screenings held at Vashon Theater and Café Luna.

The opening night of the film festival will be on Nov. 7, with a 9:30 p.m. showing of the 1979 musical “Hair,” at Vashon Theater.

The festival will continue throughout November with screenings scheduled each Sunday.

Films will include the animated Japanese film “Grave of the Fireflies” to be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Vashon Theatre.

The Italian film “Two Women” will play at Café Luna at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9.

At 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, there will be a screening of the French film “King of Hearts” at Café Luna, and the German film “Das Boot” will be shown at the café at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23.

The festival will conclude with the black comedy classic, “Dr. Strangeglove: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb,” scheduled for a 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 30 screening at Café Luna.

Each film will be followed by a facilitated discussion. Discussion facilitators include Bill Moyers, executive director of The Backbone Campaign, and Kate Hunter, who’s active in Vashon Islanders for Peace.
